Who I Am

A Little About My Professional Background

I received my bachelor of science in Individual Family and Family Studies from the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) and became a preschool teacher for about 15 years. During that time, I went back to school at SUNY Oneonta for a Masters in Counselor Education. I was a school counselor for about 15 years. I then got my Certificate of Advanced Studies in Mental Health Counseling (MHC) through SUNY University at Buffalo in 2016. I worked in a college counseling center from 2015 to 2019, and have been in private practice since February of 2020. I have a license in MHC from New York State.

I primarily use the Internal Family Systems counseling model with my clients. I received Levels 1, 2, & 3 training from the IFS Institute, and am working on becoming a Certified IFS therapist. I meet regularly with fellow IFS counselors for consultation.

A Little About My Personal Background

I have struggled with my own mental health for as long as I can remember, experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, and intrusive thoughts. I never knew why, until as an adult, I learned I had been sexually abused as a very young child. My ongoing journey of personal healing and growth has brought me to a place of strength and inner peace. My lifelong drive to help others has led me to becoming a mental health counselor so I can help guide you on your healing journey. I am in counseling myself, with an IFS counselor, both to continue to work on my own self-development and to experience first-hand what it feels like to be in the counselee’s seat.

If you feel stuck or lost, I hear you, and you are not alone

We are pulled in many different directions and it's easy to lose a sense of who we really are and what we really want. The world is a complicated, and sometimes difficult, place to navigate smoothly.

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed right now with all that's going on. You may be feeling:

  • sadness that seemingly comes out of nowhere

  • unsure of exactly what is making you feel bad

  • torn and confused by conflicting feelings inside

  • worry that you are never good enough

If any of the above are affecting your ability to live your best life, than it may be time to get mental health counseling.

There are many benefits to mental health counseling

Mental health counseling can successfully help you. It can help you:

  • accept and manage your feelings and emotions

  • gain confidence in your decisions

  • improve your ability to connect with yourself and others

  • develop and deepen your spirituality

  • feel hopeful and excited about your future

These are just a few of the ways counseling can help you.
